Here another exploration was taken of the horizontal. The horizontal suggests an horizon, it is of the earth. Going back to suggestions found in the two earlier similar and hazy scenes derived from the San Remo series I applied the same colours in layers to see if an `out of canvas’ aura could be created using this palette. There are two of these which I would like to work on further at some stage. It takes a long time to really know how they behave because they change so vastly with every change in the daylight. The colour of the sky reflects on them.
Or they reflect the sky so the result is in constant flux.
The horizontal with the canvas set in landscape profile (as opposed to portrait profile) seems to suggest something grounded even more strongly. Just the meerest scratch across and through the top layer of paint means that the work is interpreted as land, sea, trees, and anything to do with the earth.
